The 488 GT Modificata is exclusively for use on the track during track days and at Ferrari Club Competizioni GT events. It was in April of 1992 that the first Legend Car was unveiled at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. The concept of creating a fun and affordable "spec" class of racing for anyone to participate in was born. Legend Cars are 5/8-scale fiberglass full-fendered versions of the famed NASCAR modifieds driven by legendary drivers such as Fireball Roberts, Buck Baker, Curtis Turner, Speedy Thompson, and Banjo Matthews.

Each time a driver pulls into the pits, the tyre pressure and temperature should be tested for optimal performance. When the tyres get too hot they will swell or inflate and need to be deflated to the correct pressure. When the tyres are not warmed up they will not perform as well. The Rolex Sports Car Series and American Le Mans Series announced a merger between the two series forming the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship starting in 2014. Club Competizioni GT is the latest initiative launched by Prancing Horse in a bid to put some of the most stunning Ferrari racing cars from the last thirty years back on track.

There are minor regional and national GT series using mainly GT4 and GT3 cars featuring both amateur and professional drivers. The Targa Florio was an open road endurance automobile race held in the mountains of Sicily near the island's capital of Palermo. Founded in 1906, it was the oldest sports car racing event, part of the World Sportscar Championship between 1955 and 1973. GT cars are an integral part of the Ferrari DNA. Drag racing was organized as a sport by Wally Parks in the early 1950s through the National Hot Rod Association . In North America, stock car racing is the most popular form of auto racing. Sports car racing is a close second to open-wheel racing in a popularity contest. This series is probably the one racing series with the most easily recognizable vehicles as most manufacturers compete at the GT level with vehicles that look a lot like their high-performance supercars. The Lamborghini Huracan, Ferrari 488, Chevrolet Corvette, Nissan GT-R, and Porsche 911 are all used as race cars in this series.

Jochen Rindt won four of his first five races in his example. Rolla Vollstedt's 1972 and 1973 cars were built from very similar monocoques and were used and modified together over the next three seasons. Bob Riley designed a new Coyote III for AJ Foyt in 1972, similar in layout to the recently announced 1972 Eagle. The car was a complete flop, and Foyt only raced it a handful of times. Oval, banked board tracks, first used before World War I, were popular in the United States throughout the 1920s. Both before and after that decade unpaved tracks of half-mile and mile lengths were in use.

Full-contact formulas include Bangers, Bombers and Rookie Bangers – and racing features Demolitions Derbies, Figure of Eight and Oval Racing. The Sports Car Club of America's SPEED World Challenge Touring Car and GT championships are dominant in North America. America's historic Trans-Am Series is undergoing a period of transition, but is still the longest-running road racing series in the U.S.

Unlike other race cars on this list, there’s little that differentiates the vehicles, so there’s plenty of hard competition between drivers. Racing has always played a large role in the automotive industry. Automakers love to boast about racing wins, competing in specific series, and all of their sponsorships.
